There is a wide choice of shopping and leisure facilities available on your doorstep.  Berwick has a golf course, sports centre and the Maltings art centre for theatre and cinema goers.  There are also weekly street markets plus a farmer’s market, held on the last Sunday of each month. 

The North East offers a vast array of places to visit with countryside, beaches, parks and national trust properties all nearby. 

Cross the dramatic causeway to Holy Island.  Only reached at low tide across the causeway, the spectacular views and scenery are worth it. Visit the museum, or wander through the ruins of  Lindisfarne Priory  or spend the day on the beach on Holy Island. Crossing timetables are available in the local Tourist Information Centres and in the local papers.  

Visit Heatherslaw Light Railway, two miles from Etal village.  Enjoy a 50 minute return journey on a narrow gauge steam railway running one and a half miles between Heatherslaw and Etal.  Open from March to October.  Daily departures are from Heatherslaw.

Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke & Duchess of Northumberland is open from April-October each year.  Visit the state rooms, take a tour of the extensive grounds or see where Harry Potter was filmed.  Known as the ‘Windsor of the North’,  this has been the home of the Percy family for 700 years. Visit the Sanctuary at the Castle restaurant or have a drink in the courtyard area before visiting the shop.

Alnwick Gardens created by Her Grace, the Duchess of Northumberland is only a few minutes away from the Castle. and is ideal for children and adults alike.  Visit the Grand Cascade and watch the fountains, see the beautiful water sculptures or wander around the ornamental and rose garden.  Sit in the Pavilion café and have a drink or visit the famous Treehouse restaurant.  This quirky and unique restaurant built in the trees serves fine dining and day time meals. Northumberland is steeped in history and has witnessed some turbulent times. Viking raids, the Border Rievers and the Battle of Flodden are just some of the events of long ago.
